Deregulation

Montana is implementing deregulation. The state started phasing in retail choice for large-load customers in 1998. For all customers, Montana's Public Service Commission has extended to July 2004 the deadline for customers to choose a power provider. The PSC deemed the extension necessary because a competitive power supply market has not developed. Montana Power is the default supplier to customers who do not have a choice or who have not chosen an electricity provider.
