Deregulation

Nebraska does not allow competition among electricity suppliers. Utilities have exclusive rights to supply power in a designated area. A three-year study commissioned by the Nebraska legislature and released in 1999 found little incentive for deregulation except possibly in the case of high-demand customers like industrial sites. The legislature did not consider any bills to institute retail competition in the 1999-2000 session.
