Deregulation

Following legislation adopted in 1996, Pennsylvania has phased in deregulation of its power industry. By January 2000, all customers were able to choose an electric generation supplier. Pennsylvania utilities were not required to sell their generation facilities and are allowed to enter into long-term contracts with power suppliers.
