Deregulation

Utah's power industry is regulated -- though the public service commission does not regulate municipal power companies -- and consumers do not have a choice of electricity provider. The state's legislature has created a task force to study deregulation. The task force's November 1998 report recommended monitoring deregulation elsewhere in the country and a go slow approach in Utah. The state legislature has extended the task force until November 2002.
