TERENCE SMITH: I wanted to ask you about two specifics
here. One is, first of all, that CBS, like NBC, Disney, and others,
has chosen to invest in this new technology as minority partners.

|LES MOONVES: Well, a couple of things. Nurnber one, you
know, you can't sit on the sidelines and watch this go by and not be part
of it. As the TiVos and the Replays are coming into our world -- and they're
coming -- it's better to -- be inside the tent and figure out what they're
doing and to work hand in hand with them as opposed to saying, "You
know what, the automobile is not going to work. I'm going to stick to
my horse and carriage," you know.
TERENCE SMITH: And are you minority partners going to these organizations and saying, "Don't skip the ads. That's our bread and butter?"
LES MOONVES: To a certain extent, yes. To a certain extent, yes. We're saying there is a way to give your service and still not cut us out of the business, you know, and at that point in time, you know, it can work. It could be win-win.
TERENCE SMITH: And their response?
LES MOONVES: By and large, it's been fairly positive at this point. I think you've seen, you know, there is the ability to knock out the commercials. I think you're seeing less and less importance put on that in these new services. I think they're aware that it's better to work hand in hand with us than make us the enemy.
TERENCE SMITH: Right, but in the Replay device, I've been checking out --
LES MOONVES: Right, right.
TERENCE SMITH: -- myself, there's a little button there that says Quick Skip.
LES MOONVES: Yep. There -- that's part of it. That's part of it, you know. There are going to be those machines out there that are going to be able to do that, you know. Once again, as I said, it's better to be part of the new system than outside of it.

TERENCE SMITH: Right. You have formed with others a coalition to protect
