Syria joins Egypt in an attack on Israel to regain lands lost in that country's
1967 strike. The attack comes on Yom Kippur, a Jewish holy day, and the resulting
three-week conflict is called the Yom Kippur War. In 1974, U.S. Secretary of State
Henry Kissinger works with the Syrian and Israeli governments to secure disarmament
in the Golan Heights, but tensions remain high in the occupied territory.
