Images and stories of the devastation caused by Hurricane Katrina have spurred Americans at home and abroad to reach out and offer aid to victims who continue to suffer. Relief organizations say that donations of cash are the best way to help, as the money can be used to buy the most necessary supplies. There are hundreds of organizations taking donations. Good places to start include:

The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has set up a Web site to help potential donors sort through the numerous groups claiming to help Katrina's victims and to make sure donations are going to those who can best use them:
