initiative. The "Cafes" were a series of two-hour sessions
that began with 30 minutes of informal conversation
and coffee and then progressed to a more structured
conversation based on advanced reading materials.

Frederick, Md. - FCC used the college's First Year Seminar
classes as a forum for debate and discussion of America's
role in the world. The student's explored the themes
of America's role in the world from global, national
and local perspectives.

Broome Community College (Binghamton, NY) hosted a series of forums and panels in September and October, including: "Zen and the Art of Public School Teaching" and "Teaching Challenges: Meeting Diversity Needs in the Classroom." The latter, held during Deliberation Week, was a panel discussion on how young students with learning challenges or students whose first language is not English can best be served in the classroom.
