The centerpiece of By the People's efforts in 2005 was Deliberation Week, which ran from October 22-29. PBS stations and their community group partners, community colleges, and others hosted dialogues on healthcare and education.

PBS broadcast a special one-hour program, anchored by The NewsHour's Ray Suarez, highlighting citizen discussions on healthcare and education taking place during Deliberation Week, October 22-29, 2005.

PBS stations sponsored more than 20 local television broadcasts, four radio programs, and more than 130 events in 2004. KERA (Dallas, TX) featured NewsHour anchor Jim Lehrer discussing "A World of News."

In Albuquerque, and in 16 other cities across the country, a random sample of citizens participated in day-long dialogues about what, not who, was at stake in the presidential election with the goal of illustrating public opinion at large at a crucial time in our nation's history. KNME took the lead, locally.

Kingwood College (Kingwood, TX) discussed the rising cost of healthcare at a panel and question and answer session on October 26th from 7:00-9:00pm. The forum drew an audience from all five colleges in the district, as well as senior citizens and hospital workers from the community, among others. KWC-TV Channel 42 broadcast the event to the local community.

Cypress, Texas - Cy-Fair College hosted a series of activities focused on security and economics including town hall meetings, a faculty forum, a student-led panel discussion focused on NAFTA and its impact on national security and the Texas economy, book club discussions -- moderated by Cy-Fair faculty -- and an ongoing online discussion of Iraq and Afghanistan hosted by the local Phi Theta Kappa chapter.

Ongoing: Thirty North Texas residents have been meeting monthly at KERA to discuss topical world affairs issues, such as Middle East policy and the challenges of the new Europe, as part of the World Affairs Council and KERA's "Great Decisions Discussion Series."

Houston World Affairs Council
Fall 2004
The Houston World Affairs Council hosted a town hall meeting, America's role in the world: Power vs. Influence. Clyde Prestowitz of the Economic Strategy Institute and Chase Untermeyer of the University of Texas served as principle speakers.

KUHT/Houston, Texas
August - Fall 2004: Beginning in August, KUHT began hosting a series of four public events. The timeline for the remaining events includes: Aug. 31, Post-911 Security, Roundtable Discussion on the connection and Sept. 9, Post-911 Security, Public Forum.

Collin County Community College
October-November 2004
Plano, Texas - CCCC held a series of lectures and workshops to provide students with experience grappling with the opportunities and constraints faced by foreign policy decision-makers.

Northwest Vista College
Fall 2004
San Antonio, Texas - NVC supported events related to two interdisciplinary courses offered at the college, Sociologically Speaking and Reading Sociology. Students enrolled in these courses were placed into cohorts to research topics related to America's role in the world, specifically in the context of U.S. influence in shaping global policy.

The World Affairs Council of San Antonio supported a series of dinners that allowed participants to have in-depth discussions with experts in various fields of U.S. foreign policy and international issues.
