California. The station contributed footage to
the By the People national PBS broadcast on November

Hands On Sacramento

Hands On Sacramento hosted a two-part program.
The event began with discussion forum and Q&A
session on education issues with experts from
the Sacramento City Unified School District. After
the forum, Hands On Sacramento launched its ReadingWorks
program - a book club whose goal is to educate
Sacramento citizens about policy issues.

in day-long dialogues about what, not who, is
at stake in the upcoming presidential election
with the goal of illustrating public opinion at
large at a crucial time in our nation's history.

Perspectives held debates featuring U.S. congressional
candidates from the 49th and 50th districts prior to
the November elections. These debates focused on how
candidates view America's role in the world.

Northern California convened a town hall meeting featuring
a diverse panel of experts on foreign policy, economics
and local political concerns.

and panel discussions covering topics ranging from the
2004 election, the war on terrorism and the Mideast
conflict. Cosponsors of these events included LWV of

Bothell, Wash. - CCC held a series of activities to
promote global literacy by expanding critical thinking
about the role of the United States internationally.
The event combined interactive lectures and roundtable
discussions by experts and members of the community.
A Web site was developed to offer the extended community
a chance to reflect on the discussions and communicate
via a chat room.

Fall 2004
Lynnwood, Wash. - EdCC hosted a panel series through
its Brown Bag Lecture program entitled A Comparative
Assessment of Foreign Policy Platforms. Panel members
and speakers with a significant background in diverse
political foreign policy were recruited with the assistance
of the local World Affairs Council.

The World Affairs Council of Seattle, Wash.Hosted its
fourth annual Youth Summit, a forum for Washington high
school students to participate in democratic processes
and to make their voices heard. The event featured a
panel of adult expert speakers providing background
material, followed by opportunities for dialogue among
students.

The Community Conversations begun by KCTS in 2004 expanded
to more diverse neighborhoods, and reached citizens
in White Center where 32 languages are spoken. In partnership
with the Annie E. Casey Foundation, KCTS has trained
moderators for bilingual Community Conversations in
Spanish and Vietnamese.
KSPS/Spokane, Wash.
As a result of the BTP
project, KSPS secured a long-term partnership with Shaw
Cable, a Canadian broadcast company to provide free
fiber optic feeds for live programming efforts. Through
this partnership, KSPS is working on a series of live
programs focusing on the "Canadian Connection" topic.
