Faith & Foreign Affairs

Brief description of project:
Idaho Public Television will facilitate three discussions, produce a short documentary piece and a one-hour statewide call-in, all looking at the nexus between religious groups and international affairs.

Questions that will be asked include:
Since so many conflicts are over religious issues, do faith communities have a higher "calling" to help resolve those disputes? If so, in what manner?

Should religious groups concentrate on social works abroad, or include proselytizing?

Should certain groups stay away from countries where they might provoke tensions?

Should the American government protect missionaries even if they are not supposed to be in a specific country?

How do people's faiths guide them in their views of global environmental and economic issues?

How did people's faith guide them in their opinion of the war on Iraq and the reconstruction of that country?

Should the American government stop aid to countries that don't have religious freedom?

Partners:
1. Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints
2. The City Club of Boise
3. The Idaho Statesman, The Lewiston Morning Tribune, and The Idaho Falls Post Register
