In the fall of 2007, when the U.S. economy first seemed in peril, I began answering reader queries here on the Business Desk. I still do so, but this page has expanded to include posts from eminent economists, "far-flung correspondents," and a variety of voices that have intriguing and/or useful things to say about economics, broadly defined. Please feel encouraged to respond to any and all of them.
Paul Solman: Since Friday posts stay up for the weekend, allow me to share this cartoon, sent to me this morning by a friend, on the abstrusegoose cartoon website: "The Devil Went Down to Wall Street."
I'm not in a position to judge the validity of AG's science strips, except that they're very funny. Moreover, his pop culture references sometimes elude me. Finally, the Wall Street deal described in this comic, on the securitization of souls, is a little hard to decipher. But it certainly gives you a sense of where smart commentators rank the "masters of the universe" these days: as masters of the underworld.
