In the fall of 2007, when the U.S. economy first seemed in peril, I began answering reader queries here on the Business Desk. I still do so occasionally, but this page has expanded to include posts from eminent economists, "far-flung correspondents," and a variety of voices that have intriguing and/or useful things to say about economics, broadly defined. Please feel encouraged to respond to any and all of them.
While almost all of the comments echo the grim chords struck by our interviewees in the initial story, a few e-mailers take issue with individual points. It's taking some research to respond to them, which I'll do as soon as I can.
But for the next few days, I thought we'd share a few fascinating outtakes from our interviews with 99ers last week. We'll begin posting those tomorrow.
