The Business Desk with Paul Solman
In the fall of 2007, when the U.S. economy first seemed in peril, I began answering reader queries here on the Business Desk. I still do so, but this page has expanded to include posts from eminent economists, "far-flung correspondents," and a variety of voices that have intriguing and/or useful things to say about economics, broadly defined. Please feel encouraged to respond to any and all of them.

Live Chat: Economic Inequality

EDITOR'S NOTE: Join us live right here on Thursday, March 17 at 3p.m. ET for a chat between Paul Solman, Dante Chinni of Patchwork Nation and Derek Thompson of The Atlantic. The discussion will be moderated by PBS NewsHour Correspondent Hari Sreenivasan. They will answer your questions about income inequality in America. Submit questions ahead of time in the comment section below, via Facebook or on Twitter using the hashtag #gapchat.

In the meantime, check out our recent coverage of the issue. Watch "In Ohio, How 2 Counties' Economic Paths Diverged Over 30 Years," the broadcast piece by Paul and Dante:

And read "The 12 States Of America," the magazine article Dante wrote for The Atlantic.

EDITOR'S UPDATE | 4:41pm Thanks to everyone who participated in the live chat. There were many, many more good questions and comments than we had time to address in one hour. We'll be addressing some of those soon here on Making Sen$e.

But we wanted to quickly address one more. Jacob Zeder asked,

Does good education necessarily have to be college? Is college sometimes over emphasized? How many college graduates are unemployed now especially the liberal arts?

We explored this issue in two recent pieces: Dog-Walkers to Dominatrices: Many College Grads Face 'Malemployment' and in So You Have a Liberal Arts Degree and Expect a Job?.
