The Business Desk with Paul Solman
In the fall of 2007, when the U.S. economy first seemed in peril, I began answering reader queries here on the Business Desk. I still do so, but this page has expanded to include posts from eminent economists, "far-flung correspondents," and a variety of voices that have intriguing and/or useful things to say about economics, broadly defined. Please feel encouraged to respond to any and all of them.

Where in the World is ESPlanner Basic?

ESPlanner Basic A view of ESPlanner Basic.

Paul Solman frequently answers questions from the NewsHour audience on business and economic news here on his Making Sen$e page. Here is today's query:

Name: Ervin

Question: You're a lone beacon of hope (intelligence) on TV. Keep it up. I can't find your free ESPlanner for Social Security. Can you help me?

Paul Solman: Well, with an buildup like that, how can I not try to help? You're not the first to be challenged by the placement of ESPlanner Basic on Making Sense. It used to be linked via "Resources" at the top left of the page. But no longer, it seems. So you can go to basic.esplanner.com or click on a Business Desk post and then keep looking on the right under "Paul's Business Resources," where ESPlanner should again appear, in the words of Bob Hilliard, to the tune of Burt Bacharach, as sung by Chuck Jackson: any day now. [Note: ESPlanner Basic has now been relinked.]

A tease: Larry Kotlikoff and I are committed to a Making Sense version of the software that should make it even easier, perhaps more instructive and almost surely more entertaining to use. We'll keep readers posted.

As usual, look for a second post early this afternoon. But please don't blame us if events or technology make that impossible. Meanwhile, let it be known that this entry is cross-posted on the Rundown- NewsHour's blog of news and insight.
