Maybe it's the water in Washington that makes the hard chargers timid.
For whatever reason, Senator Thompson has decided to set aside the
growing pile of evidence that indicates severe breeches of existing
campaign finance law on the part of the Democrats. Instead, he has
bowed to Democrat pressure to look at the overall problems of the
system, specifically with "soft money."
He has decided to heed the call of panic-stricken Democrats who would rather focus on changing the system than enforcing the existing laws. It's as if upon discovering a dead body, they have shouted "Don't worry about investigating and prosecuting the murder, instead focus on preventing future killings."
