Robert Dallek wrote the essay on Lyndon Johnson for the book Character Above All, published earlier this year by Simon & Schuster. He also participated in the PBS program of the same name.
Mr. Dallek is the author of Lone Star Rising: Lyndon Johnson and His Times, 1908-1960. It is the first part of a two-volume biography. His other works concerning the U.S. presidency include Franklin D. Roosevelt and American Foreign Policy, 1932-1945.
Mr. Dallek is a professor of history and public policy at UCLA.
