If there is a perfect speech for the times, Bob Dole gave it tonight. Hetouched on all the major issues creating stark differences betweenhimself and his oponent. Bob Dole said all the right things in hiscarefully prepared address....

The packed crowd managed to applaude enthusiastically after each majorpoint despite being cramed into very tight courters. Bob Dole touchedthe hearts of the delegates as he spoke about his love of his countryand his family. With watering eye and cracking voice Dole made evidenthis deep care for his nation.

At the end of the rally ABC news correspondent Sam Donaldson stood upona table on the stage in order to get Bob Dole's attention for aquestion. Below him was a long fall to the convention floor. Uponseeing Sam's position those delegates who were left began to chant,"Jump, Sam, jump."....
