To the Capitol: Online NewsHour's special coverage of the 1998 elections.

June 18, 1998:
Examining the mood of the electorate towards Congress.

If the historic trends continue with the 1998 Congressional elections, this will be a rough Fall for the Democrats. Every major mid-term election has seen the president's party take a drubbing at the polls.

But this year could be different. With issues ranging from tax cuts to managed care to social security, candidates are hitting the campaign trails to spread their visions and round up votes. But all of this is taking place in the shadow of possible impeachment hearings. Whatever may happen, the 1998 Congressional elections promise to be anything but usual.

What are the issues shaping the election in your area? Is the media covering the Monica Lewinsky matter at the cost of the election? What issues will drive your decisions at the polls this Fall? Is it Managed Care? Education? Crime? Let us know. We will post selections of your responses and your reactions to the broadcasts later this month.
