Let's not go to war

By Noah, Age 14,
New York

Before I start, all my prayers go out to the victims their families. It is a terrible tragedy that has befallen us. I am 14 years old and I already have to worry about my country going to war.

We cannot go to war. If we attempt to bomb Middle Eastern countries so rashly, we will kill more innocent civilians and their families will experience the same pain that many Americans have faced Tuesday.

In school don't they always teach us that two wrongs don't make a right? Getting revenge on innocent lives makes us just as barbaric as the terrorists who attacked us.

Also, the media has been blatantly biased against Middle Easterners. We don't even know who were the terrorists in this incident and we are already blaming people from the Middle East.

When there was the Oklahoma bombing, the news media and the American public automatically insinuated that the bomber was from the Middle East. And who did it turn out to be? Some crazy white guy.

The day of the attack, news programs showed footage of the Middle Easterners celebrating in the streets. Why not show the footage of all of the Middle Easterners who are saddened by this terrible tragedy? Isn't the news supposed to represent a fair and unbiased opinion? On the day of the incident, I heard on the radio that Arab cab drivers were taken out of their cars and beaten.

And if there were Palestinians celebrating in the streets, in some way don't they have a right to? I am not justifying their attacks at all; it was a horrible tragedy that has taken place.

All I'm saying is that they experience what we experienced on Tuesday every day! Every day they have to live in fear, wondering which of their family members will be a casualty of war next?

Imagine having one of your parents dying because the water was polluted from bombs that the U.S. has sent over. Wouldn't you be angry with the U.S.? I know I would.

The terrorists want us to kill innocent civilians in the process of trying to kill the terrorists. Killing civilians will just further their cause, influencing people that the U.S. is Satan. Also, do the terrorists responsible for this attack care if they die? No, they are willing to die for this cause, whatever it may be.

Even if we somehow manage to kill 100 terrorists, 100 more will take their place. This is a time of mourning and healing. Right now we should worry about the need for blood in New York and Washington. All Americans able to donate blood should do it to help the victims.

I urge the government to think about the actions they take in this situation and not come up with some rash and violent solution that will gratify the American's thirst for revenge. Instead, devise a plan to help out these third world countries.

I also urge the media to start representing a fair and unbiased opinion on what has happened. In this time of need, all the countries in the world should join together and stop this war forever. Peace, love, and Unity.
