Student reaction to the attack
NewsHour
Extra, the education unit of the Online NewsHour, has created "Life
after 9.11," a special site for teens providing information, context
and community following the terrorist attacks of September 11.
The site includes a forum for teens to share thoughts, fears and perspectives
during this period of uncertainty. Here is a sampling of what young
people around the world are thinking and feeling:
Sajida, New Miford, CT
Today
it feels like we're not safe in America. The things we did before
we didn't have to worry about. Now, everything we do we have watch
out for ourselves. It feels like someone is watching us like an eagle
and we can't do anything we want right now...
Maria,
Lindenhurst, NY
As the world looks on in disbelief. We are a nation that is now in
grief. This devastation that everyone endures. One may wonder will
our nation be cured....
Summer
Northridge, CA
I think this is so terrible. People dying so young and innocent, some
newlyweds, some just had kids and thought their life was just begining
to get better and more alive, when really they are now gone forever
Jason,
Bay Shore, New York
Well, I sometimes find myself taking for granted the freedoms of which
I possess. I'll complain about traffic and about the doldrums of everyday
life. Not taking the time to see the world around me, or connect with
people standing right in front of me. I can work and strive for my
future with a freedom of mind, and self-expression unprecedented anywhere
else in the world. Yet I still lack the ability to connect with the
world around me...
Amy
Hickory, NC
It is etched in my memory
like something I cannot forget.
Something I will never forget.
I felt a huge loss when
I saw the towers collapse
in clouds of fire & smoke.
I wanted to reach out
and stop it from happening,
Rewind the tape.
Change the ending....
Jonathan,
Chicopee, MA
I was scared I remember being at school when they told us about the
tragedy. It was late in the school day, about noon. I wondered why
they told us so long after it happened...
Steff,
Canada
First, I want to start by saying that people here are very sad with
the events that occured in the U.S and we wish our sympathy to all
the families who lost loved ones. Some of us can't help but feel partly
responsible for what happened. If it was not for our capitalist and
"Master of the Universe" attitude, this event would not have happened...
