There will be 13 women Senators in the 107th Congress. That is the most women in the Senate ever. Nine female Senators were re-elected and four are brand new, including First Lady Hillary Clinton. It was the first time a First Lady ever ran for public office. Mrs. Clinton will represent New York state when she appears on the Senate floor. All together, the 10 Democrats and three Republican female senators could make a formidable alliance in passing or blocking legislation crucial to women’s issues.
