Iraq Files Weapons Report Posted:12.10.02

Iraq has filed a report that it claims proves it is free of weapons of mass destruction. Iraq submitted the 12,000-page document over the weekend, meeting a United Nation’s deadline.

U.N. experts have begun analyzing and translating the report to see if Iraq has fully accounted for its chemical, biological and nuclear weapons. They are also looking for information that, if made public, would help other nations or terrorist organizations obtain nuclear weapons.

Iraqi reportThe United States has already received a copy of the uncensored report and will make copies for the other four permanent members of the Security Council: Britain, France, Russia and China.

Iraq officials criticized the United Nations' decision to provide the U.S. with an unedited advance copy of the weapons declaration, expressing fears the U.S. would manipulate the document to find a reason to start a war.

The Bush administration claims that it has proof that Iraq has weapons of mass destruction but that it is not releasing it to avoid risking sources and methods of intelligence gathering.

U.N. weapons inspectors continue to work in Iraq while the document is analyzed.
