I don't know whether this is all a dream, or whether I am living a reality that I am not yet ready to face. In fact, if this is a dream, I am not ready to wake up. The day I left for South Africa I was hustling and impatient and ready to be here in Durban. I don't want to leave, but all good things eventually come to an end. I am crazy about South Africa! This week is helping me see that I am a part of different communities that face discrimination. And even though I see the problems that other communities face, I always believe that mine are the hardest to bear. But being part of many different communities has allowed me to appreciate the differences in everyone and allows me to care about what makes them different. I am happy to inform you that I am definitely famous! I was interviewed live for an American radio show, "Democracy Now." I was interviewed about what was going on at the World Conference Against Racism. I was heard all over the U.S! Today is the last day that I will be going to the NGO Forum because on Saturday and Sunday I will be going to a game park (an animal reserve) about three hours north of Durban. I am ecstatic that I might be running away from a lion while it is about to trample my jeep. I hope the lion scratches the car and roars so loudly that it makes my ears pop. |
