A bit about Lesotho...
Formerly known as Basutoland, Lesotho gained independence from England in 1966.

Lesotho is completely surrounded by South Africa, but separated from that country by large mountain ranges. Nearly all of Lesotho's rain falls in the summer, which begins in October and ends in April.

Many families live on farms. Music and dance are part of everyday traditional culture.

For 19-year-old Maphophi, life in Lesotho is looking up now that she has her first paying job... click here for her story.

For Teachers: Short, adaptable lesson plans and activities that build cross-cultural awareness in your classroom.
