"Kid Pickers" Rewarded for Extraordinary Finds

"Pick and Tell" Contest, Washington, D.C.
The television show "American Pickers" has been enormously successful since its premiere on History in 2010. The show follows Mike Wolfe, a veteran antique hunter, as he travels and finds rare and valuable items amidst seemingly value-less junk.
Why these Student Spoke Out
"American Pickers" has inspired kids from across the country to join in on the picking adventure, and this year the show decided to reward some of its young fans for their finds..

The "Pick and Tell" contest allowed young "pickers" to submit their best find along with an essay about their object. The three winners won scholarships, other prizes, and a chance to meet Mike Wolfe at a recent awards ceremony at the Mansion on O in Washington, D.C. They talked with NewsHour Extra about their objects, and about why they like picking.
