Brian was the Director of the NewsHour Teacher Center from August 2007 until July 2008, when he joined the staff of the River School. He spent three years in the Peace Corps, teaching history, math, and science in Borneo, Malaysia. As an adjunct instructor with the Catholic University School of Education he taught statistics and educational technology to undergraduates. Before joining NewsHour Extra, Brian worked for twelve years at two K-8 independent schools, teaching diverse subjects ranging from technology, math, and science to writing, conflict resolution, and current events. Brian holds a BA from Yale University and a Ph.D. in Education from the Catholic University of America, where he was also awarded a software development grant from the Apple Education Foundation.

Online NewsHour Managing Editor, Education Leah Clapman has been with the Online NewsHour since its inception in 1995.

She has worked on the television side of "The MacNeil/Lehrer NewsHour,” CNN's "Headline News" and CNN Interactive in Atlanta.

Leah created NewsHour Extra for students and teachers in 1998 and has produced some of the most popular education materials on PBS.org, including the Iraq War lesson plans, which were the focus of articles in the New York Times, Philadelphia Inquirer and Knight-Ridder papers.

Leah is a Princeton University graduate and lives in Washington DC with her two children and husband, a musician and American History teacher.

Annie Schliecher

Annie was an associate editor at NewsHour Extra from 2002 until 2008, when she joined the staff of Don Bosco Cristo Rey, a new Catholic Diocese high school in Takoma Park. Prior to joining the Extra team she was a high school English teacher in Erie, Pennsylvania, journalism advisor, summer camp director on Martha's Vineyard and Peace Corps Volunteer in Darkhan, Mongolia. Annie has a philosophy degree from the University of Pittsburgh and was certified to teach at Mercyhurst College.

Talea Miller

Talea Miller, Associate Editor - Online NewsHour, oversees NewsHour Extra's Student Voices, student editorials, essays and interviews. She graduated from Northwestern University with a degree in journalism and has worked for several publications, including a newspaper in South Africa.

Quinn Bowman

Quinn Bowman is a graduate of Ohio University's Scripps School of journalism and native of Columbus, Ohio. He began his writing career with Upper Arlington High School's student newspaper and has worked in magazines, newspapers and radio prior to joining the NewsHour in 2007.

Susan Graseck

Susan Graseck is the founding director of the Choices for the 21st Century Education Program at Brown University and a Senior Fellow at Brown's Watson Institute for International Studies. Her areas of interest include renewal of American democracy, education, and civic engagement in international and public policy. Susan has focused her professional efforts since 1988 on developing a national education program that joins scholarship and teaching to introduce contested international public policy issues into the secondary classroom in a way that actively engages students in historical content and encourages the development of critical thinking and civic judgment. The Choices Program engages thousands of teachers and their secondary level students in deliberation on international issues through its curriculum resources, professional development programs, and its Capitol Forum initiative.

Kim Lightle

Dr. Kimberly Lightle is the Director of Digital Libraries in the College of Education and Human Ecology at the Ohio State University. She has supported the professional growth of K-12 science and math teachers over the last 15 years by building collections and services that meet the needs of those teachers. Dr. Lightle is the Principal Investigator on the Beyond Penguins and Polar Bears project and the NSDL Middle School Portal.
