1. What is one example of a new technology that allows scientists to find and photograph previously unknown sea wildlife?

One example is manned and unmanned submersible vehicles that can withstand undersea pressure .

2. Why are Dumbo octopuses named that?

They have very large fins around their heads that look like ears.

3. Why do ocean researchers have to be good photographers?

Some ocean animals are so delicate that they can't be brought to the surface, so researchers have to photograph them underwater.

4. Where in the ocean does the "Alvinella" worm live?

It lives around deep-sea hydrothermal vents where the temperature can reach nearly 400 degrees Celsius.

5. Why are Claire Nouvian and the researchers concerned about the future of deep ocean animals?

They are concerned because fisherman are beginning to delve into the deep ocean to find fish stock for humans, as the number of fish in surface waters becomes depleted.
