Jackie Robinson Michael Schwaeger of Madison, WI asks:

Jackie and Bobby I always loved Jackie Robinson for his sheer guts and competitiveness. Somewhere I have in the back of my head the Robison reaction to Bobby Thomson's 1951 homerun to beat the Dodgers. I see Jackie following Bobby around the bases, at least with his eyes, making sure that Thomson touched each base. Have I invented a myth for my own head? Or did I really see this on film? I was a Giant's fan and I still remember Jackie's hr to tie Giants and Dodgers for the pennant. I think it came against the Phillies late on a Sunday afternoon.

Roger Kahn responds:

After Bobbie Thompson hit his famous home run, Robinson did not move from his position at second base, but did indeed followed Thompson's path with his eyes, to make sure that Thompson touched every base with his eyes. Unfortunately for the Dodgers, Thompson did.
