The who, what, when, where and why of the decisions regarding Stuart Taylor and Doris Kearns Goodwin. Did the NewsHour warn Stuart Taylor? Is this because he is conservative? Is Doris Kearns Goodwin leaving? Will Stuart Taylor return to the NewsHour? Did the White House pressure the NewsHour on the Stuart Taylor issue? ![]()

Several viewers asked: Many viewers believe Stuart Taylor has been fired. Can you please clarify the statement that he "may appear from time to time" as a commentator?
Les Crystal, executive producer of the NewsHour, responds:
Stuart Taylor may be invited to participate in a NewsHour discussion or debate, expressing his views on a particular subject. He'll be chosen in the same way we select all of our guests: for his knowledge of the subject and his articulation of a view that should be represented in the segment.
