Bob Smith is currently Vice President and General Manager of Digital City America Online's local affiliate program. Digital City develops online online communities, working with local advertisers, media and other content providers. The content includes local news, weather, traffic, calendar of events, restaurant listings, shopping, buy or sell a car or real estate, or chat with others online who are in local culture.Bob began his business career in 1984 as the co-founder of a Seattle-based start-up company, Index Publishing, which used database applications and primitive desktop publishing techniques to create customized business to business directories for the Northwest's media and advertising industries.
Next Bob moved east, where he served as the Director of Sales and Marketing for Congressional Quarterly, Inc. in Washington D.C. His chief responsibilities were the marketing of newsletters, periodicals and syndicated news services to media, government, corporations and libraries.
Since coming to America Online three years ago, Bob has been one of the architects behind AOL's phenomenal success in building alliances with media companies. Bob has created and guided AOL's relationships with the New York Times, Tribune Company, the San Jose Mercury News, Hachette Filipacchi Magazines and Rodale Press, to name a few.
Bob holds an undergraduate degree from the University of Southern California and an MBA from George Washington University.
