Atmospheric chemist Kenneth Rahn regularly travels to China to consult with scientists there about the country's air pollution problem. Rahn took your questions about pollution in Beijing during the run-up to the Olympic Games.
Do the Chinese have a realistic chance of cleaning up their very significant air pollution situation in Beijing, considering the great focus of the country on manufacturing?
Kenneth Rahn responds:
Not for a long time. It will take decades. Remember that this is still a developing country, not a rich one like the U.S. and Europe.
