On Feb. 17, the nation's television broadcast system is scheduled to go all-digital, offering more enhanced images and doing away with older analog signals.
Will this impact how PBS produces any of its programming? Will more of your programs be distributed in high definition?
Paula Kerger of PBS responds:
Yes, the transition to digital television will have a major impact on the way public television is produced.
Many PBS series - including "The NewsHour with Jim Lehrer" - now broadcast in high definition. We plan to shift to only HD distribution of all of our signature series to stations on Feb. 10, when we will retire our remaining standard definition feeds - one week before the scheduled analog shutoff.
