Dr. Salah Aziz

Director and Founder, Kurdish Studies Program, Florida State University

Salah Aziz is originally from Iraqi Kurdistan. He earned his Ph.D. in Nuclear Physics from Indiana University, Bloomington, Indiana in 1988. He is an assistant professor in Physics Department at Florida A & M University and founder and director of the only academic based center for Kurdish studies in the U.S.: Kurdish Studies Program at the Florida State University.

Dr. Aziz is an expert on contemporary Kurdish issues, in general, and on Iraqi Kurdistan, in particular. He published many articles on the Kurds in Arabic, Kurdish and English. In 1993, he organized the first international conference on the Kurds in the United States; it was funded by the U.S. Institute of Peace.
