Exploring Generation Next |
Generation Next is a term for the 42 million 16-to-25 year olds who watched the Twin Towers collapse, experienced the shootings at Virginia Tech University, grew up online and statistically speaking are better educated than any other generation in history. |

The aim of the Generation Next initiative is to unravel this generation of young people who are hooked to technology, generally supportive of gay rights and racial differences, partial to postponing adulthood and swamped in debt. Over the summer of 2006, NewsHour correspondent Judy Woodruff traveled the country talking to Americans aged 16-25 for a documentary called "Generation Next: Speak Up, Be Heard." The first hour of the documentary, which aired in January 2007, discussed Generation Next's impact on the workplace, their political beliefs, and their generally liberal view on racial and sexual issues. The second hour, "Generation Next 2.0," aired on PBS the following September, and profiled seven Gen Nexters as they struggle to find their place in the world. Judy Woodruff answered your questions about Generation Next and the process of meeting and choosing these young adults for the documentaries. |
