Impeached
by the House for organizing a bizarre plot to expel the Spanish from its Florida
and Louisiana territories through a coordinated attack by Indians, frontiersman
and the British navy. The plan called for the majority of the territory to be
transferred to Britain with part of it going to Tennessee.
Case dismissed by the Senate on January 14, 1799. The Senate ruled that an
U.S. Senator could not be impeached. |
