Prompted
by the growing number of uninsured Americans and little
action at the federal level, individual states and cities
have begun to propose their own health care plans. In
July 2007, Massachusetts is set to become the first
state to require all residents to purchase health insurance.
Meanwhile, other states and cities are pursuing more
limited efforts to cover the uninsured. The following
reports explore some state and local efforts to tackle
