Former Ohio Republican Rep. Bob Ney was sentenced to two-and-a-half
years in federal prison Friday for his role in the Jack Abramoff
lobbying scandal.

Ney Pleads Guilty in Corruption Scandal
After months of denying any wrongdoing, Rep. Bob Ney, R-Ohio,
agreed Friday to plead guilty for his role as "Representative
No. 1" in the federal corruption investigation into disgraced
lobbyist Jack Abramoff. Ney is the first elected official to admit
guilt. He faces federal charges for making false statements, conspiring
to commit "wire and mail fraud," and violating federal lobbying
laws.

Senate Report Reveals
Tribal Lobbying Misconduct
The Senate Indian Affairs Committee released a 373-page
report Friday detailing how former GOP lobbyist Jack Abramoff
and ex-Republican staffer Michael Scanlon received $66 million
over three years from Indian tribes in the name of protecting
their casinos. The document describes how the two overcharged
for their services, set up fake nonprofit organizations to launder
the money and interfered with tribal elections to avoid scrutiny.
The report also makes some recommendations to Indian tribes,
including strengthening election laws and contracting rules, to
try to prevent future exploitation.
