Ethanol from plant cellulose: The overall carbon emissions from cellulosic ethanol are less than tailpipe emissions because the carbon in the fuel is taken from the atmosphere. Ethanol from corn: This fuel additive is mostly a biofuel; however, its processing produces enough carbon to make its overall carbon output comparable to conventional gas.
