Inside a Water Reuse Plant FLASH VERSION
Orange County, Calif.'s new water treatment plant, called the Groundwater Replenishment System (GWS), is one of about 15 in the country that recycles wastewater into potable water. The water goes through three intensive treatment phases before it is delivered back into the groundwater supply.
Flash version requires Flash Player
A New Plant, The plant provides 70 million gallons of water per day, enough for half a million people. Before it arrives at the plant, the wastewater is treated by the Orange County Sanitation District. In most areas, that treated water would be discharged into a river or ocean -- but in Orange County some of its now piped to the new plant.
