Americans Still Feel Impact of 9/11 on Life, Politics

Panelists On the fifth anniversary of the Sept. 11 attacks, memories of the destruction and victims remain fresh in people's minds. Eight Americans talk to Jim Lehrer about how the day's events have impacted their lives.

Forum: How Has 9/11 Affected You?

RealAudio | MP3: President Bush urged Americans to be unified and steadfast in the war on terrorism in a 16-minute televised prime time address Monday.

"America did not ask for this war, and every American wishes it were over. So do I," he said. "But the war is not over -- and it will not be over until either we or the extremists emerge victorious."

The president also defended U.S. actions in Iraq, saying, "The safety of America depends on the outcome of the battle in the streets of Baghdad."
