NewsHour Extra Editor

The award-winning site for teachers and students, NewsHour Extra, is looking for a creative, tech-savvy, problem-solving and public-service minded education editor.

The NewsHour Extra Editor will write and edit stories for high school students, solicit student voices on topics in the news, write and edit the daily blog. The editor will maintain the site’s currency with the highest standards. In addition, the editor will assist with the editing and production of the Student Reporting Labs website, part of a video journalism program in schools around the country.

Duties include, but are not limited to: writing and editing stories; copyediting; web and video production; identifying and nurturing partnerships; coordinating stories with the general site and broadcast; and assisting the Managing Editor-Education to create valuable and effective content for teachers and students. This is a grant-funded position through August 2015. Funding beyond that time is expected, but guaranteed.

QUALIFICATIONS: Demonstrated professional-level copyediting, writing, web production and project management skills required. Must be highly organized, a stickler for perfect grammar, and proficient in Final Cut Pro or other video editing software. Experience in WordPress production and development are huge pluses.

MINIMUM STARTING SALARY: $34,300
