Powell FCC Chairman Michael Powell's statement on the Commission's vote to revise media ownership rules. Powell says the changes will "advance our diversity and localism goals and maintain a vigorously competitive environment."
Abernathy FCC Commissioner Kathleen Abernathy's statement in which she defends the move to ease several ownership rules. "Those who oppose our decision will continue to fear a mythical media monopoly that will descend upon our media landscape without any regulatory review of its power," Abernathy said.
Martin FCC Commissioner Kevin Martin's statement, in which he says the changed ownership regulations will better reflect today's marketplace, where "people today have access to more information from more diverse sources than at any time in our history."
Adelstein FCC Commissioner Jonathan Adelstein's statement of dissent. "This is a sad day for me, and I think for the country. I'm afraid a dark storm cloud is now looming over the future of the American media," Adelstein said in his grave rejection of the proposed rule changes.
Copps FCC Commissioner Michael J. Copps' statement of dissent. "I dissent because today the Federal Communications Commission empowers America's new Media Elite with unacceptable levels of influence over the media on which our society and our democracy so heavily depend," Copps said.
