Scenario 2: Controversial Images
Controversial ImagesYou are the metro editor for a daily paper in a mid-sized city. The front page of tomorrow's paper will feature a news article and an accompanying image about a terrible car crash last night that killed two teens from the local high school. Driving under the influence of alcohol is a suspected cause. One teen was a star football player; the other was a member of the student government. The best photograph that you have is a very graphic picture of the crash scene, with the two bodies being covered with blankets by police officers on the ground; their bloody limbs can be seen hanging outside the blankets. You have no other photographs to choose from. The local news station is currently running a segment on the 11 p.m. news, featuring shots similar to the one you will feature on the front page. It's 11:15 p.m. and you are pressed for deadline since your paper will hit the streets by 5 a.m.

   Do you run the photograph?
  A. You run the photograph, along with a caption that identifies the victims and that alcohol is a suspected cause.
  B. You decide not to run the photo and instead print a graphic illustrating the numbers of local people killed in drunk driving accidents in your community over the past five years.
