Olduvai Stone Chopping Tool

Olduvai stone chopping tool, Olduvai Gorge, Tanzania. Made nearly two million years ago, stone tools such as this are the first known technological invention. This one is the oldest object in the British Museum.


Originally presented as a BBC radio series and now a book published in America, "A History of the World in 100 Objects" tells the story of humanity using artifacts selected from the British Museum.
