President Harry Truman

Two Puerto Rican nationalists attempted to kill President Harry Truman on Nov. 1, 1950, while he was temporarily staying in the Blair House during a White House renovation. The attack by the gunmen was foiled by White House police. One of the attackers was killed, while the other was sentenced to death and was eventually allowed to return to Puerto Rico.
