Horseshoe Reef

This horseshoe reef was destroyed by a species of starfish known as the crown of thorns starfish. The spiny starfish is responsible for approximately 42 percent of the Great Barrier Reef destruction. Crown of thorns starfish feed on the coral and recently their growth has been boosted by nutrients in freshwater runoff that enters the reef ecosystem.
