Jessica Pena says, "My connection to diabetes is through my 2-year-old daughter, Estrella. She was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes on Oct. 10, 2011.

Daily life for us means lots of carbohydrate counting and injecting insulin every two hours. I even have to check her blood glucose in the middle of the night just to make sure it doesn't drop low.


Nov. 14 is World Diabetes Day.

To recognize it, the American Diabetes Association has launched the "A Day in the Life of Diabetes" initiative to show the growing impact diabetes has on American families highlight how diabetics live with disease live with it every day.
