Hiromi Kinno, a nurse living in Miyako, studies the many scribbled messages pinned on a makeshift notice board. She had come to look for her parents and young nephews who were missing. “I’m worried whether they were able to escape. I had no contact with my family until I found out about what had happened on TV. At first I couldn’t believe it, and I started imaging the worst and I had no cell phone connection so I was helpless and had to come," she said.
