Twenty-six states have either legalized medical marijuana or passed laws minimizing or eliminating penalties for possession of small amounts of cannabis. Colorado has a history of pushing boundaries when it comes to the herbal drug; in 2011 it pulled in roughly $5 million in sales taxes from medical marijuana businesses - in Denver, there are more medical marijuana dispensaries than Starbucks and McDonalds combined.
